Dnipropetrovsks Tower Bridges The Gap

Dnipropetrovsk is a city in the Ukraine that few outside of the country will have heard of but all of that could change if a rather unique looking tower gets underway.

Called Brama, the 180 metre tall 54 scheme has already been approved by the local planning authorities despite having won few fans thanks to its unusual design that comes from Ukranian firm, Dolnik & Co.

The project is essentially two identically shaped slab blocks facing each other with a similarly sized space in between them. Bridging the buildings are several upper levels that connect them together whilst further down in the centre of the plot are another sixteen storeys uniting the slabs. Several other skybridges wall also the span the gap lower down.

Much of the criticism of the project hasn't come from the way it's massed and connected but on the colours of the facades that are split into rectangular sections of brown, beige, white, yellow, greey and orange. Whether this cladding works depends on the quality of the materials used - if done poorly the colour combination could well end up closer to carbuncle than anything.

At night the tower will be lit up by a gridwork of LEDs, again arranged in rectangular sections but this time turquoise, magenta and white whilst the larger central bridging section will have the crossbracing it contains illuminated expressing the structure that helps maintain stability between the main slabs.
